RMI 668X ROCK-SI-CHORD / ELECTRA-PIANO
Rare RMI 668X Rock-si-Chord / Electra-Piano, the last and rarest top-of-the-line model of the RMI electric pianos. This RMI 668x is in very good condition, and is fully functional. Includes the folding steel legs, stereo volume and dual sustain pedalboard assembly, case lid for the keyboard with internal music rack, and a rubberized cover for the entire case assembly. This is your early Tony Banks / Genesis sound!
Also includes the service information (original manual, I believe) for the RMI 368 / 668 series. Weighs about 125 pounds packed for shipment.
Good condition, fully functional. The instrument is complete (also rare) with the individual sustain foot switches and volume footpedal controls for the 2 tone generators. The wave shaping circuits were also redesigned from the earlier 600-series models. The RMI 668X is housed in the RMI hard plastic case that the 368X used. One of the original 1/4-inch jack plugs on the left volume pedal has been replaced, as the old one had the tip broken off. The original plug (minus the tip) is included. The AC cord for the instrument is in bad condition, with the rubber coating coming off and showing the sheathed AC wires inside. This is easily fixed, but I have left as-is to retain the original condition of the instrument. It could be wrapped in tape, or preferably, a new power cord spliced on.
The 600 series of RMI pianos were the next step above the more-well known 300-series Electra-Pianos (such as the 368X)m, and combined the sounds of the Electra-piano and the Rock-Si-Chord. There were four models manufactured in the 600 series during its production years. All of the models consisted of two tone generators per key.
One set of generators was tuned at a eight ft. pitch, while the other generator was tuned at a four ft. pitch. Each set of generators had its own wave shaping circuits, and its own output jack. The output level available at each output jack was controlled by a control mounted on the front panel, and a foot operated expression pedal. The idea was to combine the new design of the Electra Piano with the accepted tones of the Rock Si Chord.
The RMI 668X was the 4th and final model manufactured in this series, with production starting in 1974, replacing the 668 in its wood case. An additional seven keys were added from the 600 series, for a total of 68, along with a pre-amp, and bass boost controls. The front panel controls were changed to the sliding type. Otherwise, the instrument was identical to the model 600B. The list price was $2095. It was the last analog Electra-pian, and remained in production in the early 1980s.

At this point it should be noted that the accenter and the organ mode stops were not musical voices. These stops were designed to be used in conjunction with a voicing stop. The accenter stop added a percussive knock effect to the tone, and the organ mode extended the decay characteristics of whatever musical voice stop was turned on.
