L100 Classic monitors orange / blue |
Description |
JBL's biggest seller worldwide was the JBL L100 from the early 70s. In 2019 they decided to revive the marque, with its distinctive grille foam (originally in orange but also available in blue). Internally they kept the basic 3-way structure, but used modern components of the same quality but with the benefit of nearly 50 years of research. The result was a pair of exceedingly solid, heavy mid-range monitors with a great sound. UK specialist magzine What Hi-Fi gave them five stars, even allowing for their huge (£3999) price. www.whathifi.com?reviews/jbl-100-classic . Now that JBL have introduced a Mk II version (whose main difference seems to be in the cable connectors), the few remaining Mk Is are still £2500 if you can find a pair. This pair have spent their life in a private studio, so have had little work. They have some odd marks from being moved around between rooms, but are generally pretty nice to look at as well as listen to. They come with an unused, packed set of alternative blue speaker grilles. Hifi News and most commentators think that to get the best from these speakers they should be mounted away from walls, and ideally on stands. Stands are available from stock in most countries (eg £265 from premiumsound.co.uk) or VEMIA have a pair of stands which might do the job much cheaper - see a later lot. |
