Unusual one this: Fred Mundell of Fundamental Designs made this theremin for a show at London’s South Bank Centre. It’s a pitch only theremin with its own two speaker system connected, one pointing each way, so it needs no external connections to make music with. Very nicely made with a good tone, and number of tone variance controls. It also has a line out so can be recorded - I would connect this line out to a foot volume pedal to take the place of the volume antenna that most theremins have. For the photos I removed the speaker covers, and some of the magnetic covers that Fred made to keep punters away from the controls. It has a magnetic connector so the aerial can be removed for transport. I didn’t figure that out so broke the connector just above the magnet itself. It’ll need resoldering or a new resistor installed, easy for someone with a soldering iron. When you turn it on it still makes theremin-esque noises without the aerial actually connected, so I’m confident it’ll be back in good working order once the aerial connection is resoldered in place.
