Audiomaster (Floyd, Who)1970 mixer |
Description |
Here's the difficult decision: if you want the great vintage EQ, reverb and classic looks of the Audiomaster, do you go for this one or the £10K-plus one on Reverb (OK, which WAS owned by Fleetwood Mac)? The original Audiomaster was made in 1967, and (in 1969?) was improved to add foldback pots (above the main channel pots). Charlie Watkins was the first to realise the value of monitors - especially for singers - and this mixer was the first to make that possible. The mixer on the cover of Umma Gumma is the frist version, I think, without the foldback pots. Incredible to think that Floyd, the Who and others did massive gigs with just this 5-channel mono mixer for P.A. - OK, eventually two or more of them. This example is working great but could do with some cosmetic cleaning - especially of the tolex, which could look quite good but at the moment has over 50 years of dust engrained in it. But functionally it is very good, and ready to go. Its serial number (CW 26622) presumably shows it was worked on by Charlie himself. It has lived much of its life (the last 30/40 years) in a sturdy case, which will be the next lot. We will pack separately for courier transport (10GBP). |
