Electrocomp 400 and 401 |
Description |
Fantastic vintage sequencer. Even without the manual I have had great fun with this amazingly powerful machine. The copy manual ** has now arrived at VEMIA, 13/4/07** from Mark Glinsky's Manual Manor, and will be included. It will be essential to get the most out of this monster. It includes the user manual and some schematics pages.
I have also had several pages of great tips from EML 400/401 fans and experts, which will be included - things like feeding an LFO from another synth into the clock voltage.
Two 16-step sequences or one 32-step sequence can be set up easily, with complete control of pitch and duration, with a third voltage output for filter or something, but that's only the start of the fun.
There are amazingly complex permutations available.
The 401 is a simple two-oscillator synth, with only Attack and Decay on the envelope; but the sequencing potential is enormous.
Because this is a very old machine, it is not guaranteed to be perfect factory working order. For instance the final modulation slider produces a superb distortion effect in the middle of its range - probably not intended, but it sounds great. Other sliders may be dirty, things may be out of spec generally - but this sequencer is probably the deepest I have ever come across.
