C37 classic tube stereo deck a/seen |
Description |
One of the - if not THE - greatest tape machines ever made: the legendary C37, using the same chassis as Studer adapted for the four-track J37s which the Beatles recorded some of their greatest material on. The range ran through the whole of the 60s before being replaced by solid-state gear in about 1970. This example is in generally very good cosmetic condition, and is complete with extras like the tape-marking mechanism and the automatic tape editing scissors. It was bought in working order in about 2000, used very rarely for a couple of years, and then left covered up for several years. In about 2010 it was fired up again but the tape-cutting mechanism went into perpetual motion, so we switched it off meaning to have it serviced.
Now it's time to sell it. Apart from some wear ('patina' ?) to the front of the console it appears in very nice condition, and all the amazing removable modules look beautiful.
It will definitely need some expert attention - we honestly don't think it will be much, but it is sold AS IS. We believe it came from the BBC - there are many BBC-looking docs with it detailing a mod or mods that may have been carried out - expert guidance needed. It also has a lot more user and service documentation included. It is very heavy - 55kg is a conservative estimate - so we will ship it on a pallet unless it is able to be collected or delivered by hand. Packing charge 32GBP, refundable from hand delivery charge or if collected by hand. |
