 Make Oberheim
Model DS2 A original CV / gate sequencer
Description This is a rare chance for a working Oberheim DS2 A Digital Sequencer. The DS2 was the second commercially available digital sequencer ever made (after the EMS) and one of the first machines that Tom Oberheim ever built – afaik even before the SEM. The DS2 A is from 1974 and has an expanded memory. It could be found in the rigs of many famous keyboarders like Larry Fast, Tangerine Dream and many more. There are three sequences that can be recorded and played back and they share a memory of 48 notes in total. Operation is simple. Sequences can be recorded in realtime via an attached CV/Gate keyboard. When played back, all three sequences can be pitched in realtime with knobs over a very large range. If you choose a high clock rate when recording, the machine can playback sequences in very high speed. So an attached synth can be 'mis-used' as a wavetable generator. There are some interesting things that makes the unit pretty cool to use. There is no way to sync the machine. Condition: This particular unit is fully working and recently tested. All functions work and all lamps (no LEDs!) are fine. All LED-segments also work fine. Unfortunately, two of the yellow switches are broken. You need a screwdriver to move them. But these switches are only necessary to assign different length to the three sequences and to change these assignments in a live situation. Since it is quite unlikely that you will use a DS2 A on stage these days, you do not really need these switches. The unit is perfectly clean and the frontpanel is in very good cosmetic condition. Same goes for the back. The adhesive tape can easily be removed. There are two screws missing on the top. The fuse-holder on the left side is not original. The brown part of the chassis has some dings and scratches in the paint. Since it can easily be removed and has no labelling on it a paint job should be done very easily for low costs. If you do this, the whole unit will look almost like new and it will look great not only beside an SEM! A pdf with user- and service manual (with complete schematics) is included.
