Rare, gorgeous-looking and gorgeous-sounding synth, the cousin of the VL1. Monophonic instead of duophonic, with a plain control panel instead of (presumably fake) wood and with four less program banks. Otherwise practically identical - and actually less bling-y and more classy to look at.This has the sought-after Version 2 software, with improved modelling, 30 new microtunings, and better effects.
The VL7 is designed to come alive with a breath controller - see Dave Crombie's SoS March 95 super-enthusiastic review - but I've never really got on with breath controllers. Luckily there is a vast array of alternative controllers to get the same effect - two mod wheels, two foot controller sockets, two footswitch sockets - as well as aftertouch and velocity.
Even without s breath controller, this has to be one of the most expressive and powerful synths ever.
