Minitmoog |
| Description |
For many years, this was a Moog oddity, collectable because of its rarity, but only occasionally seen in working order. A sort of boosted version of the Satellite - generally considered Moog's worst synth. But hold on - it actually sounds great as well as being the rarest of Moogs. The late Kevin Lightner, who knew more about analogue synths than most people in the world, said this about them: 'a good working Minitmoog can be a joy...... a really fun and expressive player's synth. Not great for sound effects, but excellent for lead lines.' This has just been serviced here (March 2025), including re-bushing, dismantling cleaning and lubricating all sliders pots, etc - sounding very good, playing well: it’s touch response is good, so long as you don’t have the sensitivity control set to wide as it can expose the not too great (nearly 50-year-old) condition of the pressure circuit. But that does work and allow some great control, especially now the keyboard is very nice too. It also has Bob Moog's hand in the design, too - he reportedly had to rescue this project personally after the original team were not succeeding. It is in very nice cosmetic condition as well, although it has to be conceded that the whole cosmetic design is a horrible mishmash. There are three minus points: 1. the slider tops (themselves replacements) are not all in great condition - starting to crack like the originals did. The mains plug (***110V not 220V***) is missing its front capping piece - see photo - and looks very dubiously safe - but I guess that once it is put in the mains supply no live parts are exposed. And having guitar speed knobs for the two pots on the back of the synth is novel. If you want to be convinced this can sound very good, check out Sebastien Moumon's lovely improv on his Minitmoog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_TkKRAcluQ Packing 12GBP. |
