If you want just about the rarest thing in the whole of the A-Z books... this is it. (p94 if you're interested, though how accurate the description is when it says 'in production' is dubious.) Or if you want to be smug and be able to correct the authoritative Grove Dictionary of Musical Instruments - they seem to think this had more than 68 keys. Anyway, here it is, probably one of only a handful of these electric pianos ever built. The makers, Eavestaff, had had huge success with their mini-piano, which found its way into thousands of schools in the UK, and even more homes. This was their attempt to go modern. Possibly only a prototype - the fablon covering is particularly cheap and nasty. It doesn't seem to power up, and the action needs work - many of the felts have come adrift, for a start. The pedals don't do much, either. A serious project, but maybe very worth it, because its unusual design should produce unusual tones too. Replacing the top with perspex could be nice. Tremolo, piano/harpsichord, tone and volume controls (to serivce!). Very heavy, and with easily damage-able legs, so if we can't hand-deliver it it will have to be palletised (60GBP). |
