 Make Korg
Model VC10 Vocoder - mods, needs service
Description Korg VC-10 working with tuning issues. This a 1978 Korg VC-10 vocoder. The serial number 160087 (the '16' being the VC-10 model number) and Korg's front panel misspelling of 'Frequency Responce Simulator' on the initial production run both indicate that this is one of the earliest VC-10s. This VC-10 comes with the original rare and valuable Korg MC-01 gooseneck microphone in full working order. There are patches of pitting under the paintwork in places, and a hairline crack in the high G key that doesn't affect playing. The interior of the synth is in great condition and very clean. All elements of this VC-10 - the synth, ensemble effect and vocoding functions (both with internal and external carrier) are working as expected, but the tuning is highly inconsistent. Rear panel trimpots access tuning circuits for each note, these likely need recapping/servicing. Other pitch functions (vibrato and pitch bend) behave as expected. A previous user has installed a switchable-modification which can be bypassed from the front panel, engaging this at present causes a substantial gain increase and overdrive from the mic. A second switch has no discernible effect. The internal circuit board for this mod is clearly labelled and can be repopulated with new components by any competent tech if desired. As it stands this is a great sounding vocoder that works flawlessly when used with an external carrier signal - just plug in your favourite synth and talk into the mic. The start price reflects the onboard synth's tuning issue and leaves plenty of budget for a full service or a stone-cold bargain for a self-repair job.
