Synclavier 3200, MIDINet, MacII N/W |
Description |
We had hoped to have this ready for this auction, but we haven't managed it. **It is sold as seen, needing some servicing.** When we tried switching it on there was no +-15V rail. Clearly it is likely to need a bit more work than just sorting that out. Looking inside and outside this machine you can see why it was insanely expensive. Somewhere between $100,000 and $250,000, possibly a lot more. Chris Meyer's excellent Music Technology article from 1989 http://www.muzines.co.uk/articles/the-synclavier-story/97 states that RAM cards alone were $10K each. This example, designed to be used with any MIDI master keyboard, is in very good cosmetic condition, and comes with NED's re-badged Macintosh II with 16-inch monitor and keyboard, trackball, and the much-vaunted MIDINet box (with eight MIDI INs and 8 OUTs). Plus all cabling as seen. The locks were picked - no key available. An iconic instrument, either as it is, as a great addition to a museum collection or serviced as a working vintage sample/synthesiser (some of the sounds coming out of a vintage Synclavier in the past are still as good as any I ever heard). Unless we can deliver by hand in the UK, this will need to be palletised (80GBP) for shipping. NB lot 25752 is a heavy duty transformer (ordinary 230-110V transformers are nowhere near powerful enough for the Synclavier) which would be good for this and could be added to the pallet for no extra charge. |
