Bruel & Kjaer |
Model |
Vast lot of classic 50s-80s gear |
Description |
Probably the largest collection of vintage Bruel & Kjaer gear in the world, from 25 years of searching auction websites, BBC and other TV and radio studios, universities, audio manufacturers, etc.. Allowing for inflation, the estimated purchase cost second-hand was about 10,000GBP, and the original cost from the manufacturer getting towards 500,000GBP. Some of these units were each as expensive as a Mini car. Their general cosmetic condition is very good, but some have marks from stickers, or dings on their casing. They are sold AS SEEN. Some of them have been successfully fired up and used in the past, but even they probably need calibration or servicing. Many have never been switched on since purchase. Many (the older ones especially) have B&K's unusual mains socket - which has in a few cases been bypassed, but which otherwise needs replacement with an IEC socket or a supply of the original plugs. A large quantity of UK IEC leads can be included if this lot stays in the UK. On nearly all the gear, voltage is switchable to all normal worldwide standards. The audio sockets are usually B&K's ultra-shielded large-bore sockets - but 4mm banana plugs work fine (just with less shielding). Because of their age and original lab use, special care should be taken to ensure they comply with current safety standards. Bruel & Kjaer were a great company, because of their original refusal to sell to military establishments, and because of the incredibly intricate hand assembly of their products. They also chose the most beautiful colour for their front panels. Although designed as lab test gear, a large number of these devices found their way into electronic music studios such as the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. A full numbered list is in photo 2, but it includes: twelve 1022 Beat Frequency Oscillators (to form an octave super-wobbulator?), 1x1012, 1x 1014, 2x 1024, 1x 1607, 2x 2603 tube mic pre-amps, 3x 2010 Heterodyne Analyzers, 1x 2121(?), 6x 2107 Frequency Analyzers, 1x 2114 Spectrometer, 5x 2409, 1x 2416 Voltmeters, 1x 1901 Tracking Frequency Multiplier, 2x 2804 Mic PSUs, 3x 4426 Noise Level Analyzers, 3x 2626 Conditioning Amplifiers, 2x 5686 Control Signal Sel ectors, 1x 4715 Display, 1x 4911 Motion Analyzer, 1x 2606, 1x 2607 Measuring Amplifiers, 1x 7400 Cassette Player, 1x 2811 8 channel Multiplexer, 1x 1620 Filter Set.
