 Make Digisound
Model Mod 80 modular synth as seen
Description This Digisound Mod 80 with separate keyboard was sold in VEMIA November but the top bidder, at £830, never eventually paid - and the second bidder had bought another item. It clearly needs a good amount of work, but Digisounds are fantastic vintage modulars and do sound great when serviced, and it also has 48 early EMS-style knobs - 43 of which still have their silver inserts. Here's the seller's description: Modules are: 80-15D2 (D-A Converter) 80-15D3 (D-A data display) 80-2-3 (VCO) - x2 80-5 (Processor) Dual LFOS (no module number) 80-12 (Noise - Sample & Hold) 80-6 (VCFL) 80-8 (Dual ADSR) 80-9 (Dual VCA) Unlabelled module (perhaps headphone amp and reverb control?) This has been in storage for 20+ years. It powers on, and notes are produced from the VCO. However, I am not skilled to set it up properly, and cannot therefore vouch for the correct operation of the various modules. Besides the modules listed above and shown in the images, there appears to be a headphone amp, a spring reverb unit*, and a large veroboard circuit (function unknown). There is corrosion on some connectors. Although some potentiometers show tarnishing on the casing, they all have a smooth, good quality feel. *I will disconnect the spring line unit and pack separately for shipping, to avoid any risk of damage to internal modules. The separate keyboard (which contains the power supply) contains three potentiometers and a joystick. I cannot vouch for their functioning. There are two black keys sitting lower than the rest, but all keys trigger the D to A converter. Mains power is fed by a standard C13 mains connector. Intriguingly, the rack carries a sticker which says Marshall Prototype 1447N. I know there was a UK electronic component supplier called Marshalls, but know nothing more of the provenance of this modular synth. In summary, this system is for sale with no guarantee given as to the correct function of the individual components, other than my honest word that notes can be produced from the VCO. The rack (without packaging) weighs 8.2Kg, and the keyboard (without packaging) weighs 10.3Kg. Packing 20GBP.
